General questions
1. What is the wooden world map made of?
Our 3D wooden world maps are made from natural birch plywood and precisely laser-cut for a clean, detailed finish. Because natural wood can vary slightly in tone, grain and texture, each map may look a little different from the product photos. These natural variations are part of the character of real wood and make every map truly one of a kind.
2. What is the scale of the wooden world map?
The scale depends on the map size:
- L — approx. 1:43,000,000
- XL — approx. 1:34,000,000
- XXL — approx. 1:25,000,000
Some islands are intentionally enlarged to make them more visible and easier to install.
3. How do I remove the pieces from the panels without damaging them?
Small pieces and elements from thinner panels are held in place by tiny bridges. Gently push them out from the back, on the side without engraving.
Larger pieces and elements from thicker panels are fully cut and secured with tape on the back. Carefully push them out and remove the tape before installation.
4. Why are some islands larger than their true scale?
Some islands would be extremely small if reproduced at their exact geographical scale. We enlarge selected islands slightly so they remain visible, can be cut precisely and are easier to install without losing the overall look of the world map.
5. How do I position the islands correctly?
Use the included layout guide to position the islands around the main continents. You can also check Google Maps or a regular atlas if you want a little extra guidance. They don’t need to be placed with millimetre precision — as long as the overall layout looks natural and balanced, you’re doing it right.
6. What are the flags, pins and GeoTags used for?
- 167 country flags — to mark the countries you have already visited.
- Pins with car, plane, house and heart symbols — to highlight favourite places, your hometown, memorable destinations or cities where your loved ones live.
- 36 GeoTags — to mark past trips, upcoming journeys or places you would love to visit.
These accessories are always included with the PREMIUM set. With the Classic Wooden World Map, they are included only if you purchase them as part of a bundle with the map.
7. How do I attach the decorative elements?
The decorative elements are attached directly to the wall using the included double-sided adhesive strips.
Apply a strip to the back of each element, remove the protective liner and press it firmly into place. Ships can be placed on the oceans, planes between continents and ocean names around the map
8. Where can I hang the wooden world map?
The wooden world map is designed for dry indoor spaces such as a living room, bedroom, home office, hallway or workspace.
It works especially well as statement wall decor above a sofa, desk, bed or console. Avoid bathrooms, saunas and areas with high humidity.
9. Is the wooden world map suitable for children?
The map can be displayed in family spaces and children’s rooms, but the set contains small parts that may present a choking hazard.
It is not suitable for children under 3 years old, and installation should always be carried out by an adult.
Premium LED Maps
1. What is the difference between the Classic and Premium LED Wooden World Maps?
Both versions feature the same layered wooden map design and signature 3D effect.
The Classic Wooden World Map is attached directly to the wall with double-sided adhesive strips.
The Premium LED Wooden World Map is mounted on a backing board with standoffs, so it sits slightly away from the wall and creates a deeper, more dimensional 3D look. The LED backlighting adds an extra visual effect and makes the map stand out even more in the interior. It also comes with GeoTags, country flags, travel pins and a branded case with a handle.
2. What sizes is the Premium LED Wooden World Map available in?
The Premium LED Wooden World Map is available in the same three sizes as the Classic version:
- L size — 105 × 60 cm (41.3 × 23.6 in)
- XL size — 130 × 72 cm (51.2 × 28.3 in)
- XXL size — 181 × 100 cm (71.3 × 39.4 in)
The map itself is the same size in both versions. The difference is the mounting board, standoffs, LED backlighting and the rest of the Premium set.
3. What's in the PREMIUM box?
- Mounting board with standoffs for wall installation.
- Wooden world map pieces — countries and continents laser-cut from natural birch plywood.
- LED backlighting — 2 LED strips with battery boxes and adhesive strips.
- Antarctica with its own mounting board, plus islands placed separately around the main map.
- 36 GeoTags for marking past and future trips.
- 167 country flags and travel pins with car, plane, house and heart symbols.
- 18 decorative elements — 6 ships, 5 ocean names, 4 planes, 1 lighthouse, 1 compass rose and 1 anchor.
- Layout guide and installation instructions.
- Branded case with a handle.
4. How do I install the Premium LED Wooden World Map?
- Assemble the mounting board using the diagram and letter markings.
- Attach the wooden map pieces to the board with the included double-sided adhesive strips, starting with the largest pieces. You will end up with two main sections: A (North and South America) and B (Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia).
- Position the map on the wall, check that it is level and mark the mounting points. Drill the holes, insert the wall anchors and screw in the standoffs.
- Attach the LED backlight to the back of both map sections.
- Hang the map on the standoffs and secure it with the metal screw caps.
5. Do I need to drill into the wall?
Yes. You will need a drill with a 6 mm drill bit suitable for your wall type, as well as a screwdriver, pencil and level.
Wall anchors and standoff mounts are included in the set.
6. How many standoff mounts are included with each map size?
The number of standoff mounts depends on the map size:
• L size — 9 for the main map + 2 for Antarctica = 11 pcs
• XL size — 11 for the main map + 2 for Antarctica = 13 pcs
• XXL size — 15 for the main map + 3 for Antarctica = 18 pcs
7. How long does installation take?
Installation usually takes around 3–3.5 hours, depending on the map size and your pace.
The process is part of the experience — a little like putting together a puzzle — so there is no need to rush. It can be a fun activity to enjoy with family or friends while assembling your map piece by piece.
For the XL and XXL sizes, holding and mounting the map on the wall is easier with two people.
8. Do I need installation templates like with the Classic version?
No. The Premium LED Wooden World Map is first assembled on the mounting board on a table or clean floor, and then mounted on the wall as a complete piece.
9. What batteries does the backlight need?
The LED backlight uses AA batteries. The number of batteries depends on the map size. Each section of the map has its own LED strip and battery box.
A 10 m LED strip uses 3 AA batteries, while a 5 m LED strip uses 2 AA batteries. Batteries are not included.
• L size — 5 m + 5 m LED strips — 4 AA batteries total (2 + 2)
• XL size — 10 m + 5 m LED strips — 5 AA batteries total (3 + 2)
• XXL size — 10 m + 10 m LED strips — 6 AA batteries total (3 + 3)
10. Where is the switch for the LED backlight? Do I need to take the map down to turn it on or off?
No. The switch for the LED backlight is located on the battery box behind the map, and the standoffs leave enough space between the map and the wall to reach it easily.
For the best access, place the battery box close to the outer edge of the map rather than in the centre — near the bottom of South America for part A and near the bottom of Australia for part B. You do not need to take the map down to turn the LED backlight on or off. See how it looks: [YouTube video link]
11. Is it easy to change the batteries?
Yes. You do not need to remove or unstick the wooden map pieces.
There are two ways to change the batteries:
- Remove the map section with the battery box from the wall and replace the batteries.
- Unscrew the standoff mounts closest to the battery box and carefully pull the map slightly away from the wall to access it.
If you choose the second option, handle the map carefully to avoid putting too much pressure on the wooden pieces.
You can see how to do it in this video: [YouTube video link]
12. How long do the batteries last?
Battery life depends on the battery quality, capacity and how often you use the LED backlight.
With continuous use, one set of AA batteries typically lasts a few days. If you use the backlight only in the evenings or for a few hours at a time, the batteries will naturally last longer.
13. What do I do with any extra LED strip?
Arrange the LED strip so it covers the back of the map evenly. If you have some extra length, you can either place it closer to the centre or run it alongside the first strip. Areas with two layers of LED strip will glow a little brighter.
You can also trim the excess if needed. Make sure the LED strip stays within the edges of the mounting board.
14. How do I install Antarctica?
Antarctica is installed in the same way as the main map. Attach the Antarctica pieces to their own mounting board, then mount the board on the wall using the included standoffs below the main map.
Please note: Antarctica does not have LED backlighting.
15. How do I protect the map while installing the LED backlight?
To install the LED backlight, place the map engraved side down on a flat surface.
Put a soft blanket or towel underneath to protect the wood and engraving from scratches while you work.
